Within your first 30 days, you need to be sure to enroll in certain benefits such as medical, dental, vision and reimbursement benefits if you plan to do so. If you don't enroll within your 30 day window for voluntary benefits such as supplemental life insurance and voluntary disability plans, you will be subject to evidence of insurability. Newly eligible employees should enroll in their respective Duke Benefits Overview via Duke@Work My Careers to learn more about their benefits at Duke. You should also attend an orientation event that will provide important information about Duke, its missions, and operations.
Enroll in Benefits
If you want to enroll in medical, dental, vision or reimbursement benefits, you must submit your enrollment forms via Duke@Work or to Duke Human Resources at 705 Broad St. within the first 30 days of eligibility. Otherwise, you must wait to enroll until the next annual open enrollment period, unless you have a qualifying life event. If you were hired in the 4th quarter of the calendar year (October - December), make sure to see these special instructions for 4th quarter hires.
New Staff Orientation
During your first two weeks, all Duke University staff will attend a New Staff Orientation session to provide an overview of the broader organization, describe the history, culture and expectations of Duke, and describe your benefit options. Duke Health staff will attend the Day 1 at Duke Health orientation on their first day of work and complete Duke Health Orientation modules via the Learning Management System (LMS) within the first two weeks of employment.
Required Training & Policies
Be sure to review important Duke policies and discuss any questions with your supervisor. You must complete required training and sign certain forms for your personnel file as part of your employment.
