Faculty Background Checks

Effective January 2014, criminal background checks are now conducted on all newly hired (non-student) employees, including newly hired faculty members.

The checks review convictions, not arrests, and only during the previous seven years. Any results of concern are reviewed with the Provost, Vice President for Administration and University Counsel. A decision would be made by the Provost and then reviewed with the appropriate dean. The prospective hire would also be notified of the concern and could raise any possible mitigating factors before a final decision was reached.
