Program Overview

The HR Strategic Business Partner Certificate program helps Duke Human Resources professionals cultivate the mindset and skills necessary to align HR capabilities with organizational strategy. Through a mix of core courses and electives, participants will learn to apply best practices across HR disciplines and strengthen their contributions as strategic partners.

Complete two of the following:

  • The HR Business Partner
    This two-day course will explore the business partner role, offer an understanding of new competencies necessary for success as a true business partner, and teaches how to make a successful transition from functional expert to business partner.
  • HR Analytics
    Learn the practical applications of HR Analytics, the added challenges associated with studying people, examine metrics, determine how to use them and explore HR’s role in data protection.

Complete at least two electives from the following areas:

  • Talent Development
    Develop a framework for attracting, retaining, and growing talent. Explore succession planning and diversity strategies that foster inclusion and organizational excellence.
  • Total Rewards
    Review Duke’s approach to compensation, job evaluation, and pay equity, and understand how this connects to the University’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Employee Relations
    Learn how to strengthen organizational culture and employee relationships while gaining insights into key legal considerations from expert guest speakers.
  • Talent Acquisition
    Examine the entire recruitment life cycle and understand how to use it to achieve business goals and reinforce a positive organizational culture
