RE:  Duke’s Total Compensation Program

In the coming week full-time faculty and staff will receive their annual personalized benefits statement in the mail at their home address. This statement offers a breakdown of the total financial investment Duke makes in each individual through pay and benefits.

Duke recently participated in an independent comparison of benefit programs among our peers, and when you consider all of our programs for health care, education, retirement, time off, and financial security – very few come close to what Duke offers its faculty and staff. We consistently hear similar feedback from those who rely upon our benefits – whether from someone recovering from an illness or injury, earning a degree or planning for retirement.

On average, Duke invests about $250 in benefits for every $1,000 of pay. Faculty and staff can see what Duke’s investment in pay and benefits looks like for them personally in the benefits statement being mailed to their homes.

As a supervisor, this annual event offers you an opportunity to reinforce some important messages about Duke’s total compensation package and the value of working at this unique institution.

Please encourage your employees to take a few minutes to review the statement to ensure they are taking full advantage of the benefits and services available to them and their family members.

We have developed a Manager Toolkit of support resources to assist you in promoting Duke’s total compensation package. The following materials can be found on the Managers section of the Duke Human Resources website:

Duke will also be hosting Financial Fitness Week from May 21-24 to offer faculty, staff and their family members information about the retirement plan and webinars and workshops on other financial and investment topics.

Thank you for your support in helping communicate the many ways Duke invests in our faculty and staff to support them in the important work we do together.
