Nutrition Programs

Nutrition Consultations

Duke employees working 8 hours or more per week can access this benefit twice per calendar year, free of charge. We have an experienced team of Registered Dietitians and several nutrition consult options for you to choose from.

Schedule a Consult

This service provides a one-on-one consult with a LIFE FOR LIFE Registered Dietitian to discuss healthy eating strategies and nutrition topics of interest to you. We can assist you with nutritional guidance for the following common topics: weight loss or weight gain, weight maintenance, general healthy eating, healthy pregnancy/ lactation, exercise and sports performance, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and pre-diabetes/ diabetes. Consults are currently available via video visit and you can self-schedule a consult here. Appointments last 45-60 minutes.

Worksite Nutrition Consult

If you have a group of 4 or more employees working in the same location, we will arrange to come to your office for consultation. Appointments last up to 30 minutes each and are a great opportunity to have your most pressing nutrition questions answered by one of our registered dietitians. May be combined with fitness consultations upon request. To request this service for your team, please contact Esther Granville at 681-0526 or esther.granville@duke.edu to arrange this service.

Personalized Grocery Store Tour

The grocery store is the perfect place to work directly with one of our registered dietitians in an environment where you can learn best: the grocery store!  A grocery store tour may be perfect for you if you struggle with any of the following topics:

  • New foods in the grocery store
  • Questions about meal planning and grocery shopping
  • Concerned about your budget for healthy food
  • Personal time constraints make it difficult to eat well
  • Overwhelmed by the thought of cooking at home
  • Cooking healthy meals for the entire family
  • Uncertainty around food labels and nutrition facts

Once a consultation is requested, a LIVE FOR LIFE Dietitian will reach out to you to schedule a time and location for the tour that is convenient for you. Every effort will be made to accommodate requests for a particular grocery store chain and location of your choosing. Become a health-savvy food shopper by requesting a grocery store tour consult here.

Ask a Dietitian Nutritionist Online

Have questions about nutrition but don't feel that you have the time to come in for an in person consult? Our dietitians are here to answer your questions. We will also post the answers to past questions anonymously on our website. To ask one of our dietitian nutritionists a question, click here to fill out a request.

Health Coaching Programs

Depending on the risk factor that you choose to focus on improving (body weight, cholesterol, blood pressure, or diabetes), you may work with a registered dietitian or nurse throughout the year to help guide you to achieve your goals. We have programs to choose from depending on your needs and the level of interaction you are seeking.

Duke Farmer's Markets and Mobile Markets

Duke's Farmer's Market and Mobile Markets are here to make choosing healthy, local foods more convenient. Farmers Markets are available throughout the summer season at Duke hospital, and at Duke Regional and Raleigh hospitals. Or, choose from several mobile market options for weekly pickup or to have food delivered to you at work or home.
