Bio:
Mary Jo C. Sorensen joined Duke in 1997 working in Executive Education at the Fuqua School of Business, then Duke Corporate Education. She managed senior-level professional development programs both in Durham NC and across Europe. In 2001, she joined Corporate Human Resources as a business partner for the Vice President of Human Resources. Since then she has overseen HR for a variety of departments across Duke University Health System. Currently, she is a Divisional Chief HR Officer for Network Services, the division of Duke Health that manages Duke's affiliate programs with other hospitals and health systems. She serves on several committees and actively participates in a variety of DUHS Human Resources initiatives.
Prior to coming to Duke, Mary Jo was a high school English teacher in both Pennsylvania and New York State and held NYS Regents teaching certification. She taught a variety of students in advanced placement classes, students with special needs and served as a both a high school and college level tutor for English Literature.
Mary Jo received her Bachelor's Degree in English Literature and Education at Saint Bonaventure University in Olean New York and spent a semester abroad Oxford University in Oxfordshire England. She earned her MBA in Human Resources Management at Pfeiffer University and is a certified Personalysis Practitioner. She is a holds a Professional Coaching Certificate through NC State University with ICF accreditation. She has served as a guest lecturer at NC State University and Pfeiffer University on a variety of Human Resources topics.
