RE:  Severe Weather Policy Extended to Noon Tuesday

Because ice is expected to remain a significant problem on secondary roads through the day and early Tuesday, Duke officials will extend the severe weather and emergency conditions policy for Duke University and Duke University Health System until noon Tuesday, Jan. 10. Duke expects to return to normal operations at noon Tuesday.

All staff in “Essential Service" positions should report to work or remain at work when the policy is in effect. Gates on parking garages will be open Tuesday morning for safer entry and exit. Essential service staff are encouraged to park in garages, since transit to remote lots will not be in service while the severe weather policy is in effect. Roof access to parking garages will be closed due to ice. Bus service will be operating on a limited basis Tuesday morning with hopes of returning to a normal schedule by Tuesday afternoon. Updates will be posted on the DukeALERT website.

Duke Primary Care plans to open all urgent care and continuity practice sites no later than noon Tuesday. Many practices expect to be open at 10 a.m. Regional and site leadership will communicate practice opening information to their staff. The call center team will continue to update any affected scheduled patients and ensure they are rescheduled within 7 days for appointments cancelled due to any delays in opening.

All Private Diagnostic Clinics (PDC) and Duke Hospital-based clinics will open at noon Tuesday, except the following clinics that will open with normal operating hours:

  • Adult Bone Marrow Transplant
  • Clinic 2A: Infusion/Sickle Cell Day Hospital/Apheresis
  • Clinic 2H: Endoscopy/Bronchoscopy
  • Outpatient Dialysis
  • Duke Cancer Center Clinics, Radiation Oncology and Infusion Center
  • MOHS Surgery at Patterson Place
  • Clinic 2D: Preoperative Screening Clinic at Duke South
  • Valvano Day Hospital
  • Electroconvulsive Therapy Clinic

All Duke Regional Hospital-based clinics, including Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Preoperative Screening, Vascular Surgery, and General & Bariatric Surgery clinics, will open by 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Duke Raleigh Hospital-based clinics listed below plan to open by 10 a.m. Tuesday:

  • Duke Cancer Center Raleigh
  • Duke Womens Cancer Care Raleigh
  • Duke Raleigh Cancer Center and Radiation Oncology Cary
  • Duke Raleigh Wound Clinic
  • Duke Raleigh Pain Clinic

Brodie Gym will open Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m. Wilson Recreation Center will remain closed until Wednesday as part of planned winter renovations with limited access to authorized personnel. Both recreation centers will return to normal operating hours on Wednesday.

Ongoing updates about events and campus operations, including roads, parking lots, busing routes, dining facilities and Duke stores, will be posted on the DukeALERT website: http://emergency.duke.edu.
