Request for Nominations for the 2021 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award

The prestigious Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award was established for Southern colleges and universities to honor persons with “fine spiritual qualities and a nobility of character” with “outstanding community service flowing from a life of integrity and spirituality”.
Awards will be presented to a graduating senior and to a Duke University or Duke Health faculty member, staff person, or graduate/professional student who exhibits the following qualities:
- Recognition of selflessness
- Generosity of service
- Nobility of character
- Person of integrity
- Depth of spirituality
Nominations are due Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
The nomination form and additional information are on the Provost’s website. Accompanying letters should describe and evaluate a candidate’s “characteristics of heart, mind, and conduct as evidence of a spirit of love and helpfulness to other men and women.” The letter should state how the individual exemplifies the qualities listed above and cite specific examples of how the individual’s actions have directly affected the lives of others.
