RE:  Pilot for Downtown Shuttle Service

Beginning July 2, Duke will begin a pilot to offer free shuttle service to three locations in downtown Durham with significant concentrations of faculty, staff and students.

Carolina Livery will operate two 30-passenger shuttles from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday with stops at the Chesterfield Building, the Imperial Building, and American Tobacco Campus. (Due to construction-related road closures scheduled through July 23, the shuttle will make a temporary stop beside the Durham Centre instead of the Imperial Building until roads reopen.)

The service is for students, faculty, and staff only so a valid DukeCard ID must be presented to board.

The shuttle will fill a growing need for direct transportation between Duke and downtown Durham. The shuttles are ADA compliant and includes free WiFi for passengers.

Shuttle stops have been limited to ensure efficient transit between Duke’s campus and downtown. Shuttle stops on Duke’s campus will be marketed with in-ground signs to help individuals identify the pick-up locations. The shuttles will make stops on Duke’s campus at the following locations:

  • North Pavilion
  • Duke Hospital/Erwin Road
  • Research Dr./Circuit Dr.
  • Research Dr./CIEMAS
  • Research Circle/Duke Clinics

More information, including a detailed schedule for shuttle stops and real-time tracking through Duke Transloc (beginning July 2) are available on the Duke Parking and Transportation website.  You can also download a flier and schedule for the shuttle on Duke Box.
