RE:  Interim Director for Personal Assistance Service

Effective July 1, 2017, Terry Nicotra, PhD will become the interim director for Personal Assistance Service (PAS) following the retirement of Andy Silberman, who will step down as director at the end of the month.

Nicotra has over 20 years of counseling experience and has served as a counselor for PAS and team leader for the critical incident response team for the last 10 years.  He has been PAS assistant director since 2002. A national search is being conducted to fill this important role.

Silberman started his career at Duke in 1978. He began working with Personal Assistance Service in 1985 to develop a support and counseling resource for faculty, staff, and their immediate family members. Duke was one of the first universities to offer such a service, and today PAS has become the model for others.

PAS offered more than 4,000 counseling session last year sessions and have served as an invaluable intervention and prevention resource, as well as support service during times of individual and institutional trauma.

We are indebted to Andy for his many years of service and for the program he helped build in support of Duke and its people. PAS is a wonderful legacy that will continue to serve the Duke community in the future.
