RE:  Call for Nominations - Teamwork and Diversity Awards

Duke Human Resources invites you to nominate faculty and staff members for the 2018 Teamwork Award or Diversity Award, two of Duke's Blue Ribbon Awards that recognize people who exemplify the Guiding Principles of our institution. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 7.

As a manager, you can use these awards to recognize the individuals who have helped distinguish your department, your entity, your school or all of Duke last year. Taking time to nominate an individual or team sends a strong message that you value their contributions and appreciate the impact they have made at Duke. Each person nominated will receive a presentation-quality binder including the nominations and letters of recommendation for the award.

Teamwork Award:

Nominations for the Teamwork Award should focus on departmental or cross-unit teams who foster cooperation, collaboration and open communication while working on a project that advances departmental goals and/or the mission of Duke.

For more information about the criteria and submitting a nomination, visit the Duke Human Resources website.

Diversity Award:

Nominations for the Diversity Award should recognize a full-time faculty or staff member who demonstrates a commitment to the spirit of diversity and inclusiveness at Duke and provides leadership in these areas at the unit, departmental or institutional level.

For more information about the criteria and submitting a nomination, visit the Duke Human Resources website.

Studies suggest that recognition is a more significant driver of employee commitment and productivity than pay or benefits. When you take time to nominate an individual or a group, that public recognition will likely be remembered for years.

Nominations can also be made by co-workers and colleagues but must be approved by the team leader’s department head. Please share this opportunity with your direct reports and encourage them to consider nominating individuals or teams. All nominations must be sent to Human Resources by Sept. 7.

Winning nominations will be bound with a letter of congratulations. Copies of all other nominations will be mailed to the nominee with a letter of congratulations. Awards are presented by the President and Chancellor, or a designee, at a luncheon in November in the Doris Duke Center of the Sarah P. Duke Gardens.
