Benefits of Volunteering
Volunteering helps bring a community closer. It’s a chance for different people from all walks of life to join together to as one to make an impact within their community for the better. Volunteering can also be seen as helping others through the dedication of your personal time, without any benefit to the individual. However, studies have shown that volunteering does not only help the person or communities in need, but also the individual who is volunteering.
Giving back to your community can have a great impact on your health. A recent study by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health showed that individuals that volunteer regularly throughout the year are less likely to develop certain health issues or diseases than those who do not volunteer at all. Seems like a small price to pay for such a greater outcome, right? During this week of Collective Compassion, try finding a volunteer opportunity in your community. Valentine’s Day is approaching and love and self-compassion is starting to fill the air. Giving back to your community in a simple way by show them how much you love them, while increasing your health and well-being in the process.
