Round 3: Submit Results Now
Monday, February 5 - Sunday, February 18
Deadline for submitting results: Monday, February 26.
A cup of coffee and a small snack does not meet the requirement of a balanced breakfast. Put some thought into your breakfast choices, after all it is your first meal of the day! If you must choose a pre-made breakfast option, be sure to read the back of the nutrition label first. An ideal healthy option would have less than 20 grams of sugar, contain 6-10 grams of protein, and 3 or more grams of fiber. Try these other breakfast options on the go:
- High-fiber cereal with fresh fruit and low-fat milk or soy or rice milk substitute
- Low-fat protein shake with fresh/frozen fruit
- High-fiber toast or bagel with tablespoon of peanut butter
- Select protein bar and yogurt or a glass of milk
Building a “Morning Practice”
Having a morning routine can lead to a more productive and less stressful day. Planning your morning ahead of time helps program your brain into becoming more successful and completing more tasks effectively for the day to come. There are several ways you can make your morning run more smoothly:
Plan ahead. Lay out the clothes you’ll wear and make sure you have ingredients ready to make a healthy breakfast the night before.
Resist the snooze. Set a sleep schedule and stick to it. Going to bed every night and waking up at the same time each morning helps keep you energy and metabolism levels high.
Drink water. We tend to become dehydrated overnight. Drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning helps to replenish your body’s hydration levels.
Meditate. Give your mind a few minutes of quietness to rest. If you find this to be difficult, try coloring or journaling. These strategies help to calm you down, slow down, focus your thinking, and inspire you to think more creatively.
Exercise. Burning a few calories first thing in the morning helps to release chemicals in the brain that help minimize pain and discomfort and increase well-being.
Spend time with your family and friends. Take time to eat breakfast with your family or call a friend on the way to work. Interacting with people we love can boost our mood and energy levels significantly.
