Malls can be great places to walk, especially during inclement weather. LIVE FOR LIFE has done the research and has a list of area malls and the distances within the malls. Click here to download Mall Miles.
Regular, moderate exercise helps prevent heart disease, obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and other illnesses. Various fitness activities and events are available at Duke to help faculty and staff who are interested in starting an exercise program or enhancing their current exercise routine.
Fitness Classes
LIVE FOR LIFE is excited to announce 30-minute group fitness classes! Everyone is welcome, whether you are a beginner or consider yourself a fitness connoisseur. Please bring a yoga mat or beach towel for exercises that require getting on the ground and a sweat towel and water are recommended.

Location: Class will be held on the East Campus field across the street from the Duke HR building (705 Broad Street). In the case of inclement weather, an announcement will be sent out to meet at an indoor location.
Fit in 15
The Fit in 15 program will give you the opportunity to show yourself you can commit to exercise and meet the minimum requirements necessary to make improvements to your health.
Maintain Don’t Gain
Sign up for Maintain Don't Gain, a 6-week challenge to focus on your health throughout the holiday season. Each week will focus on a particular area of health, offer a healthy recipe and challenge you to get some activity during your day. This is a great opportunity to earn LIVE FOR LIFE dollars. Incentives are received for maintaining weight within 3lb of your starting week weight, participating and logging a minimum amount of activity, as well as completing a body composition screening.
Take the Stairs
Step right up to Take the Stairs, a stair-stepping program that can help you increase your physical activity, get closer to your health goals, and earn prizes.
Take Ten "Energize Your Work Day"
Increase your flexibility, improve your cardiovascular health, or increase your strength with the Take Ten "Energize Your Work Day" Program. This self-paced incentive program encourages Duke faculty and staff to participate in physical activity twice a day for 10 minutes at a time.
Fitness Consultations
Whether you are just starting being active or want more advanced training, LIVE FOR LIFE staff can provide free fitness consultations to help you determine a suitable exercise program that will motivate you to accomplish your goals.
Duke Fitness Club
The Duke Fitness Club includes a network of full-service fitness facilities in locations throughout North Carolina that offer Duke faculty, staff, retirees and their families discounted membership rates.
Duke Run/Walk Club
The Duke Run/Walk Club provides walking and running programs for all fitness levels. This 12-week program will help you improve your fitness level while having fun with your co-workers in a group setting. Independent participation options are also available.
Remote Fitness Classes
LIVE FOR LIFE can bring fitness to your area through instructor-led classes! For a minimal fee, departments or individuals can utilize this service. A clearable space which allows at least 12 people to safely participate, as well as a signed waiver are a requirement for this service. Fill out this form to let us know you’d like to participate in a class if the option is available, and/or let us know you have a space to host one!
