New Staff Orientation (for University employees) and Duke Health orientation (for School of Medicine/School of Nursing and DUHS employees) provides a broad overview of Duke, essential expectations and valuable resources. Duke Health employees will be automatically registered for the Day 1 at Duke Health orientation and must attend on their first day of work. New Duke Health team members must also complete Duke Health Orientation modules via the Learning Management System (LMS) within the first two weeks of employment.
New Duke University employees should be registered as soon as possible so that they have ample time to enroll in health, dental, and vision insurance, and reimbursement accounts within 30 days of gaining eligibility.
The following are recommended strategies and actions to take to ensure that your new or transferring employee is properly oriented to ‘Big Duke:’

|Describe purpose and importance of event to employee and align with department orientation
|Remind new hire of 30-day window for enrolling in benefits
|Consider accompanying them to the event and picking them up afterwards
|Follow up after event to answer questions they may have and review policies introduced in Staff Handbook
