Nominations for Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award Due Friday
Nominations for the prestigious Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award are due March 1. The award was established for colleges and universities in the South to honor persons with "fine spiritual qualities and a nobility of character." It will be presented to a Duke graduating senior and to a Duke University or Duke Health faculty member, staff person, or graduate/professional student who exhibits the following qualities: recognition of selflessness, generosity of service, nobility of character, person of integrity, and depth of spirituality.
In Six Words, What Do You Value Most about Working at Duke?
A new contest asks employees to submit a six-word story describing what they value most about working at Duke. The person with the winning entry will receive their choice of either a GoPro HERO7 White or a Fitbit Charge 3. Submit your entry by March 15 and encourage your staff to do the same.
The Power of Positive Conflict
Being able to disagree in a constructive way is a hallmark of successful teams. “Different people bring varying perspectives, said Don Shortslef, senior practitioner with Duke Learning and Organizational Development. “They can challenge us or bring in information that we had not considered. So it’s important to create a work environment where people feel empowered to speak up.”
