457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan

457(b) Enrollment

Enroll or make changes to your Duke 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan through Duke@Work.

If you would like to make changes to your 403(b) - Faculty and Staff plan contribution rate, please visit Enroll or Make Changes to Your Duke Retirement Plan.

Eligibility

You are eligible to participate in the Duke 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan if your annualized compensation equals or exceeds 150% of the Social Security taxable wage base. For 2021, the minimum salary requirement is $214,200.

Maximum Contribution Amount

Each year, your contribution amount to the 457(b) Plan is limited to a maximum dollar amount specified by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). For 2021, the IRS limit is $19,500. This amount is in addition to any contributions to the 403(b) Plan.

Enroll in Your Duke 457 (b) Deferred Compensation Plan

You may enroll in the Duke 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan as follows:

  1. Set up your pre-tax payroll deductions through the Duke@Work self-service website.
  2. Select your retirement service provider through Fidelity's website. Select your investment options and designate your beneficiary through your selected retirement service provider or by form.
  3. Complete the Distribution Option Form.

If you wish to enroll using paper forms, please complete both the 457(b) Salary Reduction Agreement and the 457(b) Employee Distribution Election Form and return to the Benefits Office by fax or mail. Information on where to return completed paperwork is listed on the forms.

Once you have set up your contribution amount and retirement service provider allocation, you may select your investment options and designate your beneficiary through your chosen retirement service provider website or complete an enrollment form:
