You are eligible to participate in the Duke 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan if:
- Your annualized compensation equals or exceeds 150% of the Social Security taxable wage base. For 2017, the minimum salary requirement is $190,800; and
- You are enrolled in the Duke 403(b) Faculty and Staff Retirement Plan (the "403(b) Plan") and elected to maximize your elective deferrals to the 403(b) Plan.

Maximum Contribution Amount
Each year, your contribution amount to the 457(b) Plan is limited to a maximum dollar amount specified by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). For 2017, the IRS limit is $18,000. This amount is in addition to the maximum contribution you and Duke contribute to the 403(b) Plan.
Enroll in Your Duke 457 (b) Deferred Compensation Plan
Use Retirement Manager to enroll in the 457(b) Plan. You can review or change your contribution rate, distribution date and option, and investment carrier allocation. You can also view balances or access many planning tools and calculators. For instructions on how to enroll, click here.
If you wish to enroll using paper forms, please complete both the 457(b) Salary Reduction Agreement and the 457(b) Employee Distribution Election Form and return to the Benefits Office by fax or mail. Information on where to return completed paperwork is listed on the forms.
Please note: If you are not currently scheduled to participate at your maximum contribution level you will not be able to enroll in the 457(b) Plan. Please contact the Benefits Office for assistance on enrolling.
