The easiest way to purchase prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and other eligible health care items is to use your health care card at a merchant with an inventory control system referred to as "IIAS." Local merchants in our area that are currently IIAS certified include Harris Teeter, CVS, Walgreens, Target, Rite Aid, Kroger, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Kerr Drug, and Duke Pharmacy..
For online pharmacy purchases, www.drugstore.com and www.costco.com use the IIAS system. For an updated list of IIAS-certified merchants please see below.
IIAS Certified Merchants
IIAS-certified indicates that the merchant has set up their internal systems to recognize valid health care items vs. invalid items and is also sending the appropriate IIAS data to the networks. Any transactions made at certified merchants should be automatically verified as eligible health care items at the point of sale and no receipts would be required.
A full list of IIAS-certified merchants is available at www.sig-is.org.
Did You Know?
IIAS, an inventory information approval system, is technology used by retailers to ensure that over-the-counter health care reimbursement account card transactions are eligible expenses under IRS regulations. Every item in the store's scanner database is flagged "yes" or "no" for plan eligibility at the point of sale.
