Description
In 1995 we started Little People Day Care Center (12) and it turned into Little People Day Care Center (27) later in 2001. We started with 12 children and now we are licensed for 100 children. Composed of Early Head Start classrooms (2), along with PreK-Durham PreK (2), and our regular classroom consisting of an infant classroom, a one-year old classroom, one 2/3-year-old classroom and one preschool classroom. We have over 12 full time employees and at least 2 volunteers that work in excellence. We are proud of our facility at 1020 S. Miami Blvd Ste 117-120. We have two nice playgrounds. Discount
Duke Families Discount is $100.00 off first 3 months of childcare upon enrollment. Cannot use 10% monthly discount until after 3 months of this discount (two siblings $2,100.00 monthly)
Special Needs Support
We welcome therapists and our staff has had experience with some special needs. Autism, cleft palate, down syndrome.
Enrichment Activities
- Therapists are welcome to serve our children.
- Rags to Riches Plays come to our center two to three times a year. Most fees included.
- Durham County Book Mobile visits monthly. St. Jude Children’s Hospital Trike A Thon Fundraiser for Sick Children annually in April.
- Community Nutritionist provides exciting cooking or non-cooking activities with parents, children, and staff.
- Parent volunteer for special activities in classrooms, big celebration for National Week of the Young Child.
- Celebration of Hispanic Independence Day. Special Field Trips: Disney on Ice, Museum of Life and Science, Parent Choices.
- Parent Involvement in Academy, Reading Books in different languages. Other Family Engagement Projects: Parents and children building gingerbread houses together. Parent and child visiting Pumpkin Patch.
- Family and children visiting Urban Community AgriNomies Agriculture Association (UCAN) in Durham County - children learn to plant, farm, and see where vegetables grow and community can cook the food.
- Randy’s Five Star Academy, parents, and children plant seasonal gardens and food.
- NCSU Special Reading Team called Peanuts (students attending NCSU come out to our center and read books at least once per week, promoting Health and Nutrition)
- Life Touch Portraits take photos twice a year.
- Randy’s Five Star Academy allows students from our local universities to do their practicum before graduation.
- Randy’s Five Star Academy is also being utilized as a model center for the Rating Scales of North Carolina for their rating scale trainers.
Duke Child Care Partnership (DCCP)
This facility is part of the Duke Child Care Partnership (DCCP), which offers priority placement to Duke faculty, staff and students in four or five star child care facilities. All facilities are rated by the NC Division of Child Development.
