"This bird flew into our house window and became stunned.
I picked it up so my daughter Kelsey could closely observe it
before it flew away. This photograph reminds me that I want to
be healthy so that I can continue to enjoy these special moments
with family." — Rodolfo Estupinan, Cell Biology

Mark Your Calendar for the 2009 Health Fairs
Free Seasonal Flu Shots Offered
The Duke health fairs in October offer a one-stop shop for faculty and staff: seasonal flu shots, blood pressure, cholesterol, and bone-density screenings
(for women at risk for osteoporosis) and more.
Health representatives will answer questions about nutrition, heart health, exercise, disease prevention and smoking cessation during the free fairs, which
are hosted by LIVE FOR LIFE.
"The Health Fair offers an outstanding range of health resources in one convenient location," said Julie Joyner, director of LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee
wellness program. "Employees will want to take advantage of this opportunity to get information about the small steps they can take to make a big difference in their health."
New this year will be the opportunity to have genetic counselors explain about a simple, cost-effective way to protect your health: compiling a family
health history.
"LIVE FOR LIFE and the Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy have teamed up to increase awareness of how learning what illnesses appear in your family
can help you manage your health," Joyner said.
The counselors will provide information about how to collect a health history, and why this information is important to protecting and optimizing your own
health and that of your children. Booklets that offer more information about collecting a family health history will be available at the fair and are available at
the LIVE FOR LIFE web site.
