United Way Campaign Ending Soon — Donate by February 28
Our local communities are counting on Duke. Will we come through for them?
- Last year...
Almost $1 million was raised during the United Way Duke Partnership by approximately 3,000 Duke faculty and staff.
- This year...
Only $817,517.23 has been pledged by 1,700 donors to date, and the drive ends February 28.
Automatic Rollovers No Longer in Effect
In previous years, up to 80 percent of the funds raised for the United Way came from payroll deduction rollovers.
Effective 2007, these rollovers ended due to a new IRS tax regulation. The result: Duke has seen the number of donors —
and pledges — drop significantly. This decline in funding may have grave consequences for local aid givers and the
clients they serve: families, the elderly, and men and women just like us.
There's Still Time to Pledge
Donating to the United Way only takes a few minutes, but can change the lives
of our fellow human beings for years to come.

Where the Donations Go
The United Way funds 84 agencies and 177 programs in the Durham and Raleigh community. These groups feed the hungry, shelter
the homeless, care for the young, strengthen families and serve seniors close to home.
"Every pledge counts, no matter the amount because it is the collective strength of our combined contributions that really
makes a difference," said Monica Pallett, Duke's campaign manager.
