Got to be NC Big Cart

Check out the Got to be NC Big Cart - a shopping cart 13 feet high and 15 feet wide, provided by the NC Department of Agriculture.

Friday, April 24
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In the parking lot of the Medical Center Bookstore between Duke Hospital and Duke Clinic

When the Duke Farmers Market opens on April 24, you can celebrate Earth Day week and explore ways to live green.

Watch demonstrations and talk to experts about vermiculture with worms, square foot gardening for small spaces, composting, recycling, water conservation, herb gardens, sustainability, carpools and vanpools and other timely topics.

The Duke Farmers Market is one of the many programs that supports Duke's sustainability efforts.

NC Nutrition Specialist

Freda Butner, Nutrition Marketing Specialist, will be on hand with the NC Department of Agriculture's colorful, fruits & veggie pickup truck.

  • Ask questions about North Carolina farmers markets, certified roadside market stands, CSAs, pick-your-own markets and food safety of locally grown produce.
  • Identify places for you and your family to go on a pick-your-own excursion for strawberries.
  • Map an agritourism venture for the kids or regional romantic vineyard tours with several options from the mountains to the coast. What better way to welcome spring than to get outside, do some knee bends and stretching, while taking in the fresh air and beautiful farm vistas our state offers."

**Swipe your Duke ID badge to enter a raffle for a garden basket of foods donated by our farmers and vendors.
