Good nutrition is an essential key to overall health. At least four of the 10 leading causes of death in the U.S. (heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes) are directly related to the foods you eat. Balance, variety and moderation are important when making your food choices.

Of course maintaining a healthy weight goes hand in hand with good nutrition. Losing weight lowers your risk for many diseases, improves your health and you will look and feel better. Components of any weight control program should include nutrition, exercise and a positive mental attitude. Results do not happen overnight. Only long-term lifestyle changes can do that. LIVE FOR LIFE offers a variety of resources to help you with better nutrition and weight loss. Just click on one of our self-paced programs, web links, library and handouts or recipe booklets to get you started on the road to better nutrition.

Nutrition Consults: Consult one-on-one (in person or by phone) with a Registered Dietitian for ways to improve your health through your diet.  Call  684-3136 (Option 1) or email lflprogm@mc.duke.edu to schedule a consult. To maximize your time with the dietitian, complete 3 days of a food journal to bring to your appointment.
