BLOOD PRESSURE
Blood
Pressure is a normal feature of you heart's pumping action.
It is a measurement of the amount of pressure pushing against
the inside walls of your blood vessels as your blood flows
through them. Two numbers are given when you get your BP results.
The first (top #) number is systolic, which is the highest
pressure in your arteries when your heart beats. The second
number (the bottom #) is the pressure in your arteries when
your heart is relaxed between beats. Blood pressure goes up
and down through the day. When blood pressure is elevated
most of the time, you have high blood pressure (hypertension).
High blood pressure can lead to damage of the heart, brain,
eyes and kidneys. Desirable BP is below 129/84 or less. High
blood pressure is 140/90 or above. LIVE FOR LIFEcan check
your BP during HealthCheck. Check the HealthCheck schedule

CHOLESTROL
Cholesterol is a fatty, wax-like substance. It performs several essential
functions in our bodies. It also plays a role in heart disease. When cholesterol
containing fatty deposits builds up on the walls of your arteries, the
openings of the artery narrows and reduces blood flow to and from the heart.
This condition is called atherosclerosis. When blood flow is blocked by
the fatty deposits (cholesterol) a heart attack can occur or if a vessel
in your brain is blocked it can lead to a stroke. Many deaths are related
to atherosclerosis. In general, the higher your cholesterol the greater
your risk of heart disease it. It is important to know cholesterol numbers.
Desirable cholesterol is under 200, borderline high: 200 - 239, and high
is 240 and above. Call LIVE FOR LIFEat 684-3136 (Option 1)
